Do You Share Your Reviews on Amazon?

This recent tweet from author Alex Carrick resonated with me because I have heard this from other authors as well. He emphasized the point that as useful and appreciated as reviews on your blog may be, your review on Amazon benefits the author even more.

It stands to reason that if you have useful information to share with potential buyers, then sharing it on Amazon where buyers are likely to be at the moment of purchase has the most benefit to the author. In fact, publishers have leveraged blurbs on book covers to promote books at the point of purchase for decades. Reviews in major magazines and newspapers are nice, but a list of quotes from these publications on the front pages of a paperback edition sells more books.

You don’t have to write a separate review, nor do you need to post the whole review and create duplicate content issues for your blog. You can simply pick a representative paragraph that sums up your rating.

What’s In It For You?

According to Amazon’s review guidelines, you cannot link out to your full review (wouldn’t that be nice?), but you can include a link to your website in your profile. If you develop a following on Amazon who respect your opinion, you may see traffic that flows through to your blog.

Even more importantly, you will want to keep this in mind when you have a book to sell and you are choosing where to send review copies.

Reviews on blogs touch a wider audience, but reviews on Amazon touch a buying audience, and the bloggers who share their reviews in both places are golden.

I know that writing reviews on Amazon can be a big plus. Also, if you right enough reviews good reviews, they might actually allow you to join their book club where they can send you books for reviews.

That is a good point, Roger. If you are interested in writing reviews, you can find many authors and publishers willing to send books for your balanced and well-written commentary.

I agree with Alex, since the Amazon has been one of the most popular places to buy books, and it does help in getting reviews there as would be buyers can get a feel of the work you have written.

I was reading yesterday about a study by Quickbooks that showed visitors respond to the number of reviews rather than the overall ranking when choosing a professional on their site.

I know for myself, I put less stock in reviews where there are very few, and I tend to consider an item with many reviews as having social proof that is more representative of the general public’s opinion.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, James.

    Hi, Tammi,
seems to me that Amazon is a perfect place to sell the books and present them or sum them up in a paragraph to attract views. I like what Alex did, and I agree with your observations on this matter-however, I am not doing much businessing over Amazon so far, but that is a fact that can easily be changed. And quite quick, too. Lets just say I am still waiting for my real opportunity.

Thanks for the heads up, Tammi! It’s about time that I expand my online audience by posting reviews on Amazon, especially now that you have clarified how it can be extremely beneficial. I’m already an avid reader anyway, so might as well let my hobby benefit another by making a name for myself as a book critic.
